DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 12 (MExN): Twenty two Nagaland State Unit members of the BJP, including its Co-Convenor for Law and Legal Affairs, Toshi Longkumer and former Minority Morcha President, Mukibur Rahman joined the opposition Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) today.

A press release from the NPF press bureau stated that the BJP members joined the opposition “taking a strong stand against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.”

They were welcomed by NPF President, Dr Shürhozelie Leizietsü in Dimapur on February 11.

Dr. Shürhozelie while welcoming the BJP workers to the NPF said that, they have taken the right decision at the right time and right moment. He admitted that NPF though being in the opposition today holds the “unique identity of the Naga people” and claimed that NPF was formed not just to fight elections but to represent the Naga people.

“Many regional political parties came into being and when they are defeated, the party vanished,” he said adding that NPF will be there till the Naga people exist. He meanwhile claimed that the NPF, though in opposition now, would “never compromise their ideology for being in power or in opposition, it will stand for the people.”

During the occasion, former BJP leader, Mukibur Rahman was reported as stating that one of the main reasons for the state BJP leaders leaving the party was the introduction of the CAA and stated that sooner or later the Act will affect the people, particularly the North East region. Rahman further stated that with the introduction of the CAA, the whole North East region is at risk, adding that “the ILP is not going to stop them from entering to our state.”

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Bishnu Bhattacharjee, President, NPF Minority Wing; invocation prayer by Hetoli Achumi, NPF Central Secretary, while welcome address and introduction speech was delivered by Dr. Amos Lkr, NPF Central Vice President. The vote of thanks was tendered by Er. Rhonthungo M Ovung, NPF Central General Secretary and benediction prayer was offered by Wangshikokla Jamir, General Secretary Central Women Wing.
