The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), Naga National Council (NNC) and Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) commemorated the 62nd Indo-Naga Ceasefire Day at Chedema Peace Camp in Kohima district on September 6.

NBCC General Secretary, Rev Dr Mar Pongener was the speaker the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, FGN Tatar Hoho speaker Lhouvitsii Kesiezie thanked the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) who took all tasks in organising this function in its appropriateness.

He said that all through the years long period of war between India and Nagaland which started during early fifties of the last century, there were two agreements made: one is 1964 Cease Fire Agreement between Government of India and Federal Government of Nagaland. The other was Peace Agreement arrived at between the Governor of Assam and Representatives of Underground in 1975 at Shillong, then Assam.

In both instances, the NBCC initiated and achieved their goal of endeavour for peace in Nagaland, he said.

In 1964, NBCC set up the Peace Mission with members from India and Abroad such as Jayaprakash Narayan, a Sarvodaya Leader, Bimala Prasad Chaliha, the then Chief Minister of Assam, and Rev. Michael Scott, a Peace Activist from Great Britain and through their tireless efforts with the Peace Mission NBCC brought peace in Nagaland.

Secondly, in 1975 again NBCC initiated and made peace possible in Nagaland through the Nagaland Peace Council (NPC), he said.

“People may say anything but it was God who loves Nagas and Nagaland. God inspired His believers, guided and leaded them to work for the welfare of their people and their Nation like He used Moses to lead Israelites out from Egypt,” he said.

Every one of us have a responsibility. Now let us seek God to 'lead us not to temptation but deliver us from evil', Kesiezie added.

The programme was led by Dr Villo Naleo, secretary social concern, NBCC.
