The people of Nagaland accorded warm welcome to President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on two day visit to Nagaland, starting from November 2.
In Civic Reception in honour Droupadi Murmu, organized by the state government at Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima this afternoon, Central Nagaland Tribes Council, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization, Tenyimi People’s Organization and representatives of other tribes and communities felicitated Murmu with traditional dresses and fineries.
President launches various projects
Later, Murmu virtually launched various projects namely- 13 new Government Primary Schools and four new Government Middle School buildings, 14 new Government High Schools and one new Government Higher Secondary Schools building, Government Higher Secondary School Mon Auditorium, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidlaya Hostel Building, two residential hostels for underprivileged girl children in Mokokchung HQ and Peren HQ, 13 Bridges and 11 roads across Nagaland, new treasury building with State Bank of India Branch at Capital Complex Kohima, 10 Eklavya Model Residential Schools across Nagaland and setting up of Smart Classrooms in 190 government schools across Nagaland.
Gov welcomes President to Land of Festivals
Welcoming the President to Nagaland, Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam and Nagaland said, “A land of tribes, this beautiful State’s rich heritage is embedded in its diverse culture, wealth of flora and fauna, picturesque landscapes and natural resources and the indomitable spirit of the people.”
He informed that Nagaland is also known all over the country as the Land of Festivals, adding that the diversity of its tribal community divided into various ethnic groups, each with distinct culture and heritage, creates a year-long atmosphere of celebrations. Nagas celebrates ethnic-related traditional festivals which revolve around agriculture, as a vast majority of the population is directly dependent on agriculture.”
“We take pride in the diversity that makes the fabric of Modern India; a diversity that is reflected in the customs and social structure, language, religion and ethnicities. This is a key asset that we hold to unlock India’s potential and propel the nation to rise in global significance,” he said.
Governor said that the common thread of shared cultural values and traditions that coalesce people of varied geographical regions across the Nation, surpasses all seemingly barriers with the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and strengthen the unity and integrity of our great Nation.
India has embraced inclusiveness and pluralism which has proven to be the core element in forging a National identity based on common values and purpose through a constitutional and democratic framework, thus giving tangible shape to the vision of the founding leaders of our great nation, he said.
‘Nagaland is marching ahead with the rest of the country’
Delivering welcome address, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister, Yanthungo Patton said that Murmu’s initiative “to visit our state so soon after taking over as the President of the country, shows deep concern and regard you have for the people of the State. Nagaland is truly honoured and privileged to receive you.”
He said that Murmu, who has scripted history by becoming not only the first ever President of our country from the tribal community but also the youngest President, is an inspiration of all the tribal people across the country, including the state of Nagaland, abode of many indigenous tribal groups.
“Your visit today, is significant as it reaffirms your love and concern for the tribal communities of the country and of the north east,” Patton said.
Patton said that Nagaland is marching ahead with the rest of the country and the North Eastern region on the road of progress and development.
“That the state has been a pioneer in fields of local self governance and community led development based on its long cherished tribal way of life. Based on the strengths of strong community values and a population that is young and highly literate, the state is leaving no stone unturned to achieve further goals of development in all the spheres and sectors particularly in agriculture and tourism,” he said.
With your continuing support and concern for the State I have no doubt that our State will be able to accomplish many more milestones in times to come and emerge as front runner in fields of development and progress in the country along with the other states of the North Eastern region, the deputy chief minister added.
