Nagaland Board declares HSLC & HSSLC 2025 results; Class 10 pass rate hits historic high

HSLC pass rate hits 75.16%; Strong female performance; private schools outperform government counterparts

Kohima, April 25 (MExN): A total of 16,771 candidates cleared the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or Class 10 examinations conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) in February this year.

As per the Board, this represents a qualified percentage of 75.16%, with total enrolment at 22,313 candidates. 

Analysis of the results showed that the 2025 pass percentage was the best since the introduction of the new course in 2010, if not the best in the Board’s history.

With a pass percentage of 98.67%, Lungyihangle Nring of St Paul Higher Secondary School, Dimapur topped the HSLC merit list.

Three students secured the 2nd position with 98% – Moasanen Pongener of Fernwood School Kohima, Lokemi Achumi of Little Flower HSS Kohima, and Renbeni Odyuo of Patkai HSS Chümoukidema-Seithekema.

As per an NBSE overview, 8,878 female students (75.39%) qualified, compared to 7,893 (74.90%) male students. In the Top 20 list, there are 126 candidates, out of which 45 are boys and 81 are girls.

Meanwhile, the pass percentage of government schools stood at 48.41% in 2025, while private schools recorded a much higher 87.64%.
In terms of district-wise performance among government schools, Kohima district topped the table with a percentage of 70%, followed by Mokokchung and Chümoukedima districts at 66% and 59%, respectively. Shamator district was at the bottom with 17%.

For private schools, Mokokchung district recorded the highest pass percentage at 93%, followed by Kohima at 92% and Phek at 91%.

A total of 20 candidates under the category of Children with Special Needs appeared for the examination with various concessions such as extra time, exemption of examination fees, scribe, use of laptop, etc., and 10 of them qualified, the Board informed. The HSLC Examination 2025 was held from February 12 to 24.

HSSLC Results: Govt Schools achieve milestone

Meanwhile, the overall pass percentage in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) stood at 84.05% for the Arts stream, 81.40% for the Commerce stream, and 76.54% for the Science stream. In all streams, the performance of female candidates was much better than that of males.

Remarkably, there were three toppers from Government Higher Secondary Schools (GHSS) in the Merit List of the HSSLC Examination 2025 in the Arts and Commerce streams.

 With a percentage of 96.20%, Vikhono Senotsu of GHSS Jotsoma topped the Arts stream merit list. This is the first time a student from a government school has achieved this milestone.

With 93.80%, Asieno Kielienyü of GHSS was placed 8th in the same stream. In the Commerce stream, Kezhazetuo Nagi of GHSS Jotsoma was placed 10th with 90.40%.

In the merit list across all streams, there were 27 female candidates and 13 male candidates.

In the Children with Special Needs (CWSN) category in HSSLC, 14 candidates applied for exemptions and appeared for the examination, and 8 of them passed.

Meanwhile, the NBSE informed that the provision to download digitally signed Migration Certificates will be made available on the NBSE portal www.nbsenl.edu.in. However, those candidates who wish to avail themselves of the hard copy of the Migration Certificate can collect it from the Board’s office during office hours once they receive their original marksheets, it added.
