Nagaland CM, H&FW Minister take first shot of COVID-19 vaccine

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Minister, S Pangnyu Phom today joined others in taking the first jab of COVID-19 vaccine. Nagaland Governor R N Ravi also received  the first dose of the vaccine in New Delhi on March 2. 

They further appealed all eligible people to come forward and get themselves vaccinated without hesitation.

Rio took the vaccine along with his wife Kaisa Rio at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima while Phom got the shot at the District Hospital, Dimapur. 

“I have taken the first dose of Covishield today at Naga Hospital Kohima following the #Covid19 protocol," CM Rio later updated on Twitter.

"It is my sincere appeal to everyone to come forward and take the vaccine without hesitation,” he added. 

Meanwhile, H&FW Minister Phom also took to Twitter to share the news about the vaccination.

“Took my first dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine (Covishield) at District Hospital, Dimapur today. I would like to appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine without any hesitation,” he tweeted. 

On March 2, Nagaland Governor R N Ravi also took the first dose of indigenously produced Covaxin at AIIMS in New Delhi on March 2. 

A press release from PRO to Governor informed that Ravi lauded the Indian scientists for the ‘wonderful gift to humanity’ and hoped that people of Nagaland will take adequate advantage of the vaccine and help the country in defeating COVID-19 for good. 

As of March 2, the total doses administered in the state stood at 37,069, according to an official release on Tuesday. The oldest beneficiary was a 96-year-old man from Dimapur. 

Vaccination of age-appropriate high-risk groups will be scaled up across the state from March 7, informed the release issued by the State Immunisation Officer Dr Ritu Thurr.
