Nagaland on crossroads of development: Governor

55th Statehood Day today

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 30 (MExN): Nagaland State Governor, PB Acharya today said that challenges which face the state today can act as an inspiration to strive for progress.

In a message on the eve of Nagaland's 55th Statehood Day which falls on December 1, the Governor said that the need for development and economic growth is felt by all. “Our goal is to improve governance and inclusive growth with new and indigenous technology,” he said.  

Towards this, he appealed to the youth, women, farmers and workers of the state to be bold, creative and be open to new perspectives. “We are second to none. I am confident that change in our mindset can be brought about by youth. They are our strength. They have tremendous vibrancy and creative energy,” he stated.  

Acharya also called for providing quality education and focus on capacity building and skill education to create more employment opportunities and compete in the global market.  

He advocated exploiting natural resources like oil, coal, hydro potential; minerals, precious stones, organic produces, solar energy, rain water, etc to develop economic self reliance.  

The agro-climatic conditions in our state provide commercial opportunities for agro-based industries, medicinal and aromatic plants, horticulture, food processing, mining, tourism, handlooms and handicrafts sectors,” he stated.  

While harping on the development of tourism in the state, the Governor also claimed that the state has made incredible progress in the field of health-care, education, social services, hospitality, culture and IT sectors.  

He also stated that there is a need for all sections of people to be aware of the various Government Flagship Welfare Programmes.  

On the peace process, the Governor expressed optimism that the on-going dialogue would result in a final resolution with the support of all sections of society.  

The Governor also appreciated the support to his outreach programmes not only as Head of State but as Head of Rajya Sainik Board, Scouts & Guides, Red Cross Society, five Universities and the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC). 

He lauded the brand ambassadors for NAMASTE NE States for effective coordination of Swachh Bharat Programmes in all the 8 States.  

On the ‘Beti Bechao Beti Padhao’ Scheme, the Governor informed that he has opened an exclusive bank account for the scheme and has so far sponsored more than 500 girl children in the State during 2017-18.  

With regard to Public Private Partnership Programmes (PPP), the Governor informed that several medical camps with free medicines and surgeries were conducted by Doctors from Maharashtra in all the districts of the state. Student/Faculty exchange programmes have also been conducted.  

“Under my initiative, a number of students were given free admission in Engineering, Para-medical Courses, Nursing, etc in various Universities and Colleges in Karnataka and Mumbai,” he stated.  

The Governor in summation meanwhile called for a focus on unity among the tribes and strengthening the peace process by the central government and other stakeholders.  

“Today as our state stands on the crossroads of development and prosperity, peace remains a much cherished goal. We have to ensure that we live in harmony with one another, have unity cutting across tribes and communities,” he appealed.
