Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton on Thursday carried out surprise inspections at several government offices in Wokha district to ensure discipline and accountability in public service.
The inspections are part of Patton's ongoing initiative to enforce accountability among government employees. As the state’s Home Minister, Patton has personally visited multiple offices to assess punctuality and work attendance of staff members.
He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Vineet Kumar; Superintendent of Police Wokha, Relo Aye; Lotha Hoho team led by Chairman Mhondamo Ovung; and Lotha Students’ Union officials led by Vice President Rhonbemo P Ezung, among others, stated a press release issued by Media Cell, Dy CM (Home).
At the District Education Office, three staff members were absent out of a sanctioned strength of 15 in the Senior SDEO Office, while one was absent out of 17 in the DEO Office.
The Samagra Shiksha Office recorded three absentees out of the 11 total sanctioned strength. The Office of the District Civil Supply Officer showed higher absenteeism with five staff missing out of 15, while the SP Office had two absentees out of 45 sanctioned posts.
The Dy CM expressed appreciation for the offices operating with “near-full attendance,” commending their commitment to duty. At the same time, he directed that necessary action be taken against those found absent without valid justification.
“Public office is a responsibility, not an option - those entrusted with it must be present to serve,” Patton posted on his X account following the visit.
He affirmed that “such surprise checks will continue until discipline and accountability become the norm” across all government offices.
