KEY DEMANDS
• Conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged corruption.
• Take stringent action against the contractor and officials involved.
• Ensure the promised road project is completed for Fakim and adjoining villages.
Kiphire, September 10 (MExN): The Fakim Village Students’ Union (FVSU) today conveyed strong support for an allegation of corruption by an individual in connection with the construction of the Pungren-Mimi to Fakim road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase VIII.
The road connects Fakim village with neighbouring villages including Penkim, Thrüntsuvong, Tsundang, Sangtsong, and Vongtsuvong.
In a statement, the FVSU called the individual, identified as Tsumongthong Yim, a ‘whistleblower’ who obtained information through the Right to Information (RTI) Act indicating that the 20-kilometre project, estimated at Rs 7.27 crore for construction and Rs 36.46 lakh for maintenance, was awarded to Hexad Syndicate in March 2012.
The union claims that while the project was reportedly completed and a total bill of Rs 7.27 crore released to the contractor, on-ground verification shows minimal work was carried out.
In this connection, the FVSU has urged the Nagaland government to take immediate action, calling for a thorough investigation into the allegations and for those found responsible to be held accountable.
The union also requested that authorities invoke the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and take steps to recover any misappropriated funds.
The union further demanded that the road project be completed as originally planned and stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the execution of public works.
The statement, issued by FVSU President Limtemong and General Secretary Lethreyam, reiterated the union’s support for the whistleblower and its commitment to public welfare and responsible governance.
