Thirty-five new district disability rehabilitation centres (DDRC) across the nation was virtually inaugurated by Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr Virendra Kumar on Thursday. As per a PTI report, the newly established centres are distributed across various states, with 13 in Madhya Pradesh, seven in Andhra Pradesh, six in Odisha, four in Tripura, two in Maharashtra, and one each in Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, according to a statement issued by the Department of Disabilities.
For Nagaland state, the inauguration ceremony of District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) was held at the conference hall, District Hospital Tuensang town on March 7 with unveiling of the plaque by A Zibenthung Kithan, NCS, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang. 
The centre in Tuensang is the second DDRC in Nagaland, the first being the centre at District Hospital, Dimapur.
In his remark, the DC Tuensang expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in bringing the center to fruition. He emphasised the significance of the moment for the people of Tuensang, noting that it is only the second center of its kind in Nagaland.
Kithan highlighted the inclusive nature of rehabilitation, stressing its importance in enabling individuals with disabilities to engage effectively within their environment and with others. He outlined the objectives of the DDRC, which include conducting surveys to identify persons with disabilities in the district, raising awareness, and assessing the need for assistive devices and therapeutic services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy.
Additionally, the DC cautioned against the common trend of initial enthusiasm waning over time, leading to a decline in the maintenance and functionality of such centers. He urged the staff of the District Hospital in Tuensang to strive towards making the center one of the premier rehabilitation facilities for the community.
Dr Senilo Magh, DDRO of DDRC in Tuensang, delivered the keynote address, expressing joy and gratitude for the success of the project after four years of effort. He thanked all stakeholders for their consistent support, acknowledging the contributions of former Deputy Commissioner Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, NCS, Sentilong, SDO (C), NCS, and Temjensunep.
The programme, chaired by Yangkhumla, a Clinical Psychologist, featured a special performance by first-year students from the School of Nursing, Tuensang. It concluded with a benediction prayer offered by Kamchila, the Chaplain of the District Hospital, Tuensang district.
