Nagaland Governor, others mourns Ashwani Kumar’s demise

Kohima, October 8 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland R N Ravi on Thursday mourned the demise of the tragic death of Dr Ashwani Kumar, former Governor of Nagaland, on October 7 at Shimla. 

Describing late Ashwani as a ‘thorough professional and an excellent human being throughout his life’, the Governor added that his contributions to the people and society will be remembered for many years to come. 

Dr Kumar had served the people of the country in various capacities including the gubernatorial post of Governor of Nagaland, Director of Central Bureau of Investigation, Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, Chancellor of APG Goyal Shimla University, etc, the Governor said.

“I on behalf of the people of Nagaland, on behalf of the Nagaland Raj Bhavan family and on my own behalf convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members,” the Governor said in his condolence message.

He prayed for strength and solace to withstand the loss and for the departed soul to rest in peace. 

Y Patton: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton also remembered Kumar as a remarkable man and expressed shock over his demise. 

“ The news of his death has come as a shock to all of us and words fail me at this moment. My heartfelt condolences to his family at this hour of grief. May his soul rest in peace!” he posted on Twitter on October 7. 

TR Zeliang: MLA & Leader of Opposition Nagaland and former Chief Minister of Nagaland TR Zeliang also expressed shock over the demise and took to Twitter on Thursday to offer his condolences 

“A learned man who reached the pinnacle of his service and served as the CBI Director. Sincere condolences to his near and dear ones. May he Rest in Peace,” he added. 

Meanwhile, Kumar was cremated in the presence of his family, friends and senior Himachal Pradesh officials and politicians on October 8 in Shimla, a day after he was found hanging at his home, PTI news agency. 

The 69-year-old, who also served as Nagaland governor left behind a note saying he was embarking on a new journey, it said quoting officials. 

The pyre was lit by his son Abhishek. Senior state politicians, including Power Minister Sukh Ram Chaudhary and Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, and Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu attend the cremation, it added.
