The Government of Nagaland has been tirelessly working in tandem with the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to resolve the land issue at Dimapur Railway Station, Nagaland Transport Minister, P Paiwang Konyak said while replying to MLA Nuklutoshi in starred question at the ongoing 6th session of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) here today.
On being asked about the steps taken by the Government for the encroachment of Railway Land at Dimapur, Paiwang said that measure taken by the government included explored the option of eviction by the Estate Officer, Northeast Frontier Railway as per PPE Act 1971, Re-settlement plan is also being explored. However, the railways expressed its inability to pay the compensation amounting to Rs 132 crore (Preliminary Assessment).
A series of meetings was held between the Government of Nagaland and Northeast Frontier Railway, the Minster stated.
In the later stage, the Naga Civil Societies were also invited. The civil societies assured all out support and cooperation for the success of the project. The minister stated that the land issue may jeopardize the proposed project.
“Therefore, Government of Nagaland and Northeast Frontier Railway has decided to kick start the project on the areas under the possession of the Railways, which are free from encumbrances,” the Minister said. “The land issue will be taken up simultaneously along with the progress of the work,” he added.
The Dimapur Railway modernization to world class railway station is being taken up by the Railways under “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.” It has been learnt from the Railways that the required fund for the project has been sanctioned by the Railway Ministry. The tender formalities have been completed and the project is slated to be kick started by the month of March, 2025, Paiwang added.
