Nagaland health officials assess vector- borne disease control in Mon district

Mon, September 4 (MExN): A team from the State National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) conducted a three-day monitoring and supervision visit in Mon district from August 27 to 29 to assess the district’s preparedness in combating vector-borne diseases.

An update received here stated that the team, led by Dr Imkongtemsu Longchar, State Programme Officer and Joint Director, reviewed the preparedness of district health units, examined surveillance records, stock registers, and the utilisation of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) by beneficiaries.

Field visits were carried out to selected health facilities and villages to assess active and passive surveillance, case reporting, and community awareness activities. The performance of surveillance workers and Malaria Technical Supervisors was also evaluated.

The team emphasised the need to screen all migrant populations and international border fever cases for malaria.

An entomological team also carried out vector surveillance in the district where vector density for malaria, dengue and Japanese Encephalitis was also found. A sentinel surveillance site hospital for dengue has been set up where confirmatory tests are available.

The findings were shared with Dr Supongmenla Walling, Chief Medical Officer of Mon, highlighting the importance of sustained fever testing, timely reporting, vector control, and community engagement for malaria elimination. Necessary corrective measures were recommended to strengthen the district’s readiness for malaria elimination certification.
