Nagaland: Lok Adalat disposes of 248 cases; Over 3 crore paid in settlement

Kohima, March 12 (MExN): The 4th Quarter National Lok Adalat (Peoples Court) 2021-22 in Nagaland on Saturday disposed 248 cases/disputes out of the total 1001 disputes/matters/cases listed for compromise settlement.

It included cases in pending and pre-litigation stage mostly in the category of Bank Recovery, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) and Criminal Compoundable cases. The settlement amount involved in the cases amounted to Rs 3,66,22,776, informed a press release issued by Ketholeno Neihu, PRA, NSLSA. 

The District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) conducted the 4th Quarter National Lok Adalat (Peoples Court) 2021-22 across the State on March 12. There were 11 Lok Adalat Sitting benches constituted in the respective District Headquarters.

The NSLSA stated that the success of the disposal in cases was achieved through arbitration, conciliation and amicable efforts by conciliators which was presides over by the Judges of the subordinate Courts in the Districts. “This Settlement Amount is the amount mutually agreed for payment between the litigants (or) parties involved in a dispute. It is also includes the fine money, Bank recovery money, money suits, compensation money, etc,” the PRA said. 

Wokha DLSA conducted the sitting at the District Court Conference hall where 14 cases at pre-litigation and pending trial were taken up. 13 cases mostly bank recovery cases were subsequently disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 24,53,172. The presiding officers were District & Sessions Judge and Chairperson Duvelu Vero, Khrievono Seletsu JMFC cum Secretary Wokha DLSA.

In Zunheboto DLSA, two bank recovery cases was taken up and 1 case under pre-litigation stage was disposed with a settlement amount of Rs 3,09462. The sitting was organized at Zunheboto District Court complex. 

Mokokchung DLSA during its NLA sitting today at the Court premises took up seven cases of criminal compoundable nature and disposed six cases with a settlement amount of Rs 27000. WV Patton, CJM cum Secretary, Mokokchung was the Presiding Officer.

Kiphire DLSA conducted National Lok Adalat today at Court Premises. Out of 19 banks recovery cases, four cases were disposed off with a total settled amount was Rs. 94,658. Phuleto Yeptho, Secretary, DLSA Kiphire cum CJM was the Presiding Officer and two Conciliators with bank representative from SBI, Kiphire Branch and NSCB Ltd Kiphire were present. 

Peren DLSA conducted NLA sitting at town hall Peren with JMFC cum Secretary BP Resu as Presiding Officer and Asungbe N Hau, Retainer Lawyer, Italang Ramlia, Project Assistant and Indeu Hiekha Panel lawyer as conciliators along with officials from State Bank of India, Peren branch and Cooperative Bank, Jalukie Branch. A total number of 17 Bank loan defaulters at Pre Litigation stag were taken up. The total settlement amount was Rs 24,42,614 was recorded The programme was attended and assisted by eight Law students and four PLVs.

Phek DLSA conducted Lok Adalat at Cooperative Bank, Pfutsero premises Cheliam Khiamniungan JMFC cum Secretary Phek DLSA was the presiding officer along with Keneinuo Swuro PA, PDLSA and Sekhotso Rokha PL as conciliators, in total 52 cases were taken up and 31 cases settled. The total settlement amount Rs 34,42,289.

Dimapur DSLA conducted National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex. Before the Lok Adalat, 55 Pre-litigation and 35 in pending stage cases were settled. In total, 90 cases were settled. The total settlement amount was Rs 2,60,20,993. 

Mon DLSA conducted National Lok Adalat at Front Office, Mon. Tucuno Vamuzo was the Presiding Officer. PLs & RL were the Conciliators. All total 80 cases were taken up, out of which 23 cases were settled with a total settlement amount of Rs 2,29,500. 

Kohima DLSA conducted National Lok Adalat at District and Sessions Court Building. Altogether 13 Banks and two BSNL branch were present for settlement whereby 286 was on Bank Recovery cases and 400 Telephone and Mobile bill recovery cases. The sitting disposed 34 cases with a total settlement amount of Rs 1,400,964. 

Tuensang DLSA conducted NLA at District Court Tuensang. Kumdilong Kessen, JMFC cum Secretary Tuensang DLSA was the presiding officer and Panel Lawyers Herola and Soteth Anar were the conciliators. Altogether, 12 cases were taken up and disposed of 10 cases with a total settlement amount of was Rs 5,84000. 

In Longleng, the sitting was organized at District Court premises and 21 cases under pre-litigation stage mostly of bank recovery cases were taken up. 18 cases were subsequently disposed off with a settlement amount of Rs 2,06500.
