New Delhi, August 11 (MExN): Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), S Supongmeren Jamir, today in New Delhi joined hundreds of INDIA alliance parliamentarians and leaders, including Leaders of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, in a protest march from Parliament House to the Election Commission of India office.

The march was organised to register strong opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the ill-advised electoral roll revision policy being implemented in Bihar.

“The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee stands in full solidarity with our MP and his fellow opposition MPs in strongly condemning the ruling government’s refusal to allow a discussion on this matter in Parliament, despite repeated and persistent demands,” Communications Department, NPCC stated in a press note. “Equally deplorable was the government’s high-handed and anti-democratic act of arresting these peaceful protestors midway through the march,” it alleged.

The NPCC claimed that “The collusive actions of the Modi Government and the Election Commission of India are not merely an assault on the principles of a free and fair electoral system in Bihar, but, if allowed to proceed, will have grave consequences for the nation as a whole, eroding the democratic fabric of India from the highest levels of governance down to the grassroots.”

“We remain unwavering in our commitment to stand by our leaders and to continue resisting this injustice until democracy prevails,” it asserted.
