In a wake of the recent resolution adopted at the consultative meeting convened by the state government regarding Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in the state, the Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) president Thejao Sekhose felt that the ULB elections should be conducted as soon as possible “but the thing is that Nagaland Municipal Act should be amended first.”

Stating this during a function held at Officers’ Hill Colony here today, Sekhose opined that amendment of Nagaland Municipal Act should be done first in the interest of all the Nagas.

“Instead of election first, let amendment be done the first,” he said, adding that the municipal wards have been asking for this from the state government.

He also said that they are not against the holding of ULB elections but recommended an amendment of the Act.
Sekhose informed that AKMWP would convene a meeting soon to have a deeper discussion.
