Lumami, July 20 (MExN): Nagaland is also not lagging behind in implementing the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) and there has been concerted effort on the part of each and every stakeholder to contribute one’s bit to bring the policy to a reality, Vice-Chancellor ( Nagaland University (VC NU) Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik maintained.

The serious and dedicated contribution in the direction has been from the administrators representing the government, civil society and school and college teachers, he stated in a status report released in the run-up to the completion of three years of the declaration of the NEP on July 29.

The VC further claimed that the NEP is going to bring about a paradigm shift in the education ecosystem in the State of Nagaland and the whole country.

The main thrust of the NEP is vocational and skill-based education empowering the youth to be partners in the nation building project, he underscored.

Prof Patnaik further informed that Nagaland is going step by step covering each component of the policy, citing exemption of Nagaland and North-East States from Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate programme for last two years.

The NU, however, has already implemented the academic bank of credit (ABC), one of the important aspects of digitisation process to enable multiple entries and exit by the student at different levels, he informed.

Multiple entry and exit system offers the student the flexibility to take break from academia and engage in some hands on training through employment and get back to academics again, one of the key highlights of the NEP, he added.

Meanwhile, the VC further noted that the NU’s Academic Council has approved for the implementation of Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP) with effect from July 2023 after series of interaction and consultations with the stakeholders for implementation at the college level.

There have been efforts on the part of the University to attend to each and every issue relating to implementation of the FYUP, he maintained.
