Nagaland PRS 2024 reveals learning gaps, challenges

•    Ranks in bottom 10 states for Grade 6 performance
•    Kiphire, Shamator among 50 lowest performing districts

Kohima, January 28 (MExN): The State Council of Educational Research & Training, Nagaland has informed on released of the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan (PRS) Report 2024 for Nagaland, which provides a comprehensive picture of student learning outcomes and school education practices across Grades 3, 6, and 9.

The survey earlier known as National Achievement Survey was conducted by PARAKH NCERT under the Ministry of Education on December 4, 2024 to assessed competencies in Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Science covering 22,220 students and over 3,335 teachers from 724 schools across the state.  Performances were analyased across categories such as Gender, Location, School Management Type and Social Group, stated a DIPR report.

At the Foundational Stage (Grade 3) the performance of the State was below the National score, particularly in Mathematics. Districts like Phek and Mokokchung emerged as top performers in the State while Kiphire and Tuensang featured in the bottom, with Kiphire also featuring among the 50 low performing districts in the country.

For the Preparatory Stage (Grade 6) students performed below the National score particularly in Mathematics, placing the state in the bottom 10 performing States in the country.

Mokokchung and Phek were ranked among the top districts in the State whereas Noklak, Mon, Shamator, Tuensang and Kiphire remained at the lower end. Noklak, Shamator and Kiphire were also among the 50 low performing districts in the country.

In the Middle Stage (Grade 9) students performed above the national average in language but continued to lag in Mathematics, Science, and Social Science.

Districts like Kohima, Mokokchung and Dimapur were in the top performing category while Shamator, Kiphire, Noklak and Mon remained at the bottom list. Shamator and Kiphire continue to be among the 50 low performing districts in the country in this category.

“None of the districts from the State are among the top performing districts at the national level in any of the Grades,” it stated. 

Overall, the PRS Report 2024 serves as a critical evidence base to guide district and state level planning, ensuring data driven reforms to improve the quality, equity, and relevance of school education in Nagaland, it added.
