Nagaland records ‘sharp decline’ of malaria positive cases in last 3 yrs: NVBDCP official

Kohima, September 13 (MExN): In Nagaland, the number of malaria positive cases has recorded a “sharp decline” in the last three years. This was informed during a presentation on the overview of the National Vector Borne District Control Programme (NVBDCP) by Dr. Talitemsula Jamir, Joint Director & SPO, NVBDCP, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima.  

Addressing the two-day NVBDCP State Review meeting underway at Hotel Japfu, Kohima on September 13, Dr. Talitemsula said that Dimapur district is contributing to the maximum number of malaria cases in the state. 95% of dengue cases are also from Dimapur besides Kohima, Peren and Mokokchung, she added.  

Dr. Talitemsula also presented on the different interventions required by the districts like diagnosis and treatment, surveillance, vector control and strengthening and streamlining of recording and reporting of cases from all the health units. Dr. Talitemsula also stressed on investigation of every malaria and dengue positive case and convergence with other allied departments in combating the disease  

It was stated in a press release that Senior Regional Director MoHFW Dr. LA Singh, NVBDCP state and district officials and staff are participating in the two-day meeting.  

Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru, Mission Director, National Health Mission stressed on Malaria Elimination and said that the programme is doing a commendable job and encouraged the districts not to be complacent but work harder to become the first state in North East to eliminate Malaria.  

The address was followed by district presentations on programme implementation in their respective districts with inputs and suggestions from the participants. The second day of the meeting will also see a similar agenda where programme implementation in the districts will be discussed and reviewed.  

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by the Deputy Director (NVBDCP) Dr. Neisakho Kere. He expressed hope that the deliberations undertaken in the two day meeting will be helpful in propelling the state towards malaria elimination by 2030.
