NFR GM honours railway staff for averting potential disaster

Maligaon, November 9 (MExN): General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, has felicitated three frontline railway staff for their alertness that averted a potential disaster.

The three personnel, Loco Pilot Jitendra Kumar, Senior Assistant Loco Pilot Sailendra Kumar Keshari, and Train Manager Bholaram Das, were honoured with cash awards and certificates for their “exemplary vigilance, professionalism, and prompt action.” The incident occurred on October 23, 2025, at around 00:57 hours, when the goods train, carrying sugar, was passing between Kokrajhar and Salakati stations in the Bodoland Territorial Region.

“The crew sensed a sudden heavy jerk. Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, they immediately stopped the train, alerted control authorities, and discovered damage to the railway track caused by a suspected blast near OHE Mast No. 228/1,” the NFR statement said.

Their swift action prevented further damage and safeguarded both railway property and lives, it added. Following the incident, the damage was promptly repaired within a few hours through the coordinated efforts of frontline workers, engineers, and security personnel, who worked on a war-footing.

“The dedication and teamwork ensured the swift clearance of debris, replacement of damaged sleepers and rail tracks, and thorough inspection and securing of the site, enabling the safe resumption of train operations at the earliest,” a press statement said.

The NFR also acknowledged the devotion and promptness of all frontline staff involved, stating that their “unwavering commitment to operational safety” allowed the rail network to return to normalcy with minimal disruption.

The felicitation honours individual courage and underscores NFR's commitment to vigilant railway operations and passenger safety, the statement added.
