Nagaland: ‘Salary is not a concession’

Nagaland RMSA teachers reject govt letter, to continue agitation

KOHIMA, AUGUST 30 (MExN): The 2016 batch of RMSA teachers in Nagaland has strongly rejected a letter issued by the Joint Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha on August 29, calling it misleading and a diversion from the core issue of non-implementation of binding court orders.

In a statement issued by the Nagaland RMSA Teachers’ Association (NRMSATA), the teachers said the recent release of pending salaries for April–July 2025 could not be construed as a concession. “Salary is the rightful due for services already rendered. Its belated release does not absolve the State Government of its continuing failure to implement the orders of the Hon’ble Courts,” the statement said.

The association clarified that no stay order has been issued by the Supreme Court despite the government’s claim of having filed a review petition on August 14. “The judgments delivered in our favour remain valid, operative, and binding on the State Government,” NRMSATA said.

The statement stressed that the agitation is not limited to delayed salary but is aimed at securing service recognition from 2016, implementation of ROP 2017 with annual increments at par with SSA–RMSA 2010–13 counterparts, and counting the full length of service. “These are legal entitlements, not concessions. Until the court verdicts are fully implemented, our agitation will persist,” it said.

NRMSATA described the government’s call for teachers to resume duty while citing the review petition as “misleading and offensive,” asserting that disruption in academic activities is due to the state’s prolonged non-compliance with court orders, not the teachers’ protest.

The association warned that the agitation will continue unabated until the government fully complies with the court’s directives.
