Nagaland: Search committee constituted for appointment of Lokayukta, CM says

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today highlighted the follow up action of the Nagaland Lokayukta Bill 2017 which was passed in the Assembly in 2017.  

For this matter, the P&AR department has constituted the Search Committee for appointment of Lokayukta vide O.M dated 11th July, 2018.  

Replying to query raised by MLA Yitachu in starred question, Rio informed that the Nagaland Lokayukta Bill, 2017 after the assent of the Governor of Nagaland on December 12, 2017 was laid in the Assembly and the Nagaland Lokayukta Act 2017 (Act No.1 of 2018) was published in the Nagaland Gazette vide Notification No LAW/Bill/6-2018 dated 23rd January 2018.  

The Chief Minister also added that the Search Committee held a meeting on August 30, 2018 and decided to write to Registrar of Gauhati High Court to suggest panel of names for further discussion with the Chief Justice of Gauhati Court, Speaker and the Leader of Opposition as per the provision of the Act.  

The P& AR department had written to the Registrar General, Gauhati High Court dated 6th August 2018 and also to the Advocate General, Nagaland, Camp New Delhi dated 30th August 2018. Rio said the response are still awaited.
