Nagaland: Soil and Water Conservation Dept hosts social night

Chümoukedima, October 14 (MExN): The Department of Soil & Water Conservation held a social night at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima on October 13, attended by Advisor for Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L Imchen. In his address, Imchen applauded the department’s significant contributions to Nagaland’s development, celebrating its over five decades of service since its establishment in 1968.

Imchen noted the team’s strength of 793 members, which includes 370 ministerial staff, 423 technical staff, and 106 gazetted officers. He highlighted the department’s establishment of advanced soil testing laboratories in each district, providing crucial support to farmers and agricultural workers in soil testing and resource management. Imchen further commended the department for setting up 17 meteorological observatories since 1989, which have become integral to the state’s disaster preparedness and risk reduction strategies. He addressed the challenges posed by jhum cultivation, water scarcity, and soil erosion, underscoring the department’s efforts in promoting sustainable agriculture and watershed management through farmer training programs. “The Department of Soil & Water Conservation continues to be a pillar of support for the state’s environmental and agricultural sustainability, contributing immensely to the well-being of Nagaland and the broader region,” Imchen said.

Dr Ranbir Singh, IAS (R), Chairman of the Brahmaputra Board, delivered a special message, commending the Government of Nagaland’s conservation initiatives. He expressed the Brahmaputra Board’s commitment to supporting the Soil & Water Conservation Department’s proactive efforts, which align with national water policies.
