
Kohima, September 22 (MExN): Sumi Community Old Ministers’ Hill Kohima (SCOMHK) held a fellowship with Dr Kiheto Shohe, Associate Pastor, Sumi Aphuyemi Baptist Church as a speaker at Old Ministers Hill Fellowship (SBCK) on September 20.
The SCOMHK, Media Cell in a press note stated that Dr Kiheto Shohe encouraged all to “follow the true teaching of Jesus Christ and set a good living example as a true follower of Christ to others.” Dr Kiheto urged the gathering to have “reconciliation with God, starting from our family and community and be humbled in ourselves and have good relations with God.”
He also appreciated the present office bearers for organizing the fellowship programme after a gap of about fifteen years and urged them to be the agent of change.
Earlier, SCOMHK, Chairman, Obed Kinimi, in his remark informed that in the current year there are 84 household and about 416 members of Sumi community living at Old Ministers Hill Kohima. Kinimi urged on the importance of preserving the culture and identity of Sumi tribe to the gathering and said that Sumi mother tongue is slowly declining especially among children in Kohima.
“Our children are adopting other alien language instead of ours and in the process had lost track the usage of original Sumi language,” he stated and appealed every Sumi community to encourage the usage of Sumi language within family and community to preserve and protect the uniqueness of Sumi identity.
Further, he said that Sumi Community Old Ministers Hill collected Rs 87,330 as one day wages and contributed towards the construction of Kohima Sumi Cemetery in the current year.
James Wokhami Swu, first Chairman SCOMHK encouraged the gathering to continue fellowship programmes to strengthen and maintain good relation among the Sumi community. Lujeka Assumi, Associate Pastor, Fellowship, SBCK said prayer of blessing while invocation by Hukheto Chophy, Ex Fellowship Convener SBCK and it was chaired by Xutovi Shohe, Vice Chairman.
