These are federations of SHGs under a particular cluster or block formed by the Village Level Organizations (VLO) of SHGs of that area, Khriezovonuo Lhoungu Doulo, State Program Manager, NSRLM stated in a press release.

With this registration, the SHG federations namely, Japfüphi Women’s Livelihoods and Credit Cooperative Society, Jakhama Block; Mongchemla Women’s Livelihoods and Credit Cooperative Society, Longleng Block and Englan Yingsung Women’s Livelihoods and Credit Cooperative Society, Wokha block will “now have a legal status and will act as financial intermediary for its member SHGs. The societies are now functional and have appointed managers and accountants for management of their offices,” it stated.

A felicitation programme for the CLF Cooperative Societies was organized at Hotel Vivor, Kohima with leaders of the federations from the three blocks and officials from NSRLM and Cooperation department on March 24.

Delivering the keynote address, Imtimenla, Mission Director NSRLM expressed her exuberance at achieving a milestone in the journey of the Mission from inception till the registering of the federations. She said it is a result of concerted efforts from both mission and community, right from institution building of SHGs, to village level organizations and now to federations.

She impressed upon them the responsibility of becoming role models to guide other SHG federations to follow the same path. She encouraged the rural women to strive towards bringing more positive changes in their own villages and among the community, while mentioning that they are now self-managed, self-reliant and self-sustaining institutions and they must imbibe a sense of ownership to ensure the holistic success of the rural community at large.

Felicitating the three registered cooperative societies with certificates and bye-laws, Temjen Longkumer, Registrar, Cooperation department remarked that most society members comprising of menfolk are now defunct, but with women cooperatives, they are now seeing some improvements. He exhorted that it is the responsibility not only of the government, but every member of society to reconstruct mindsets and pave the way for women in all sectors, stating that women cooperatives is also a step towards this objective. He further emphasized on the potential of women in becoming productive contributors and in some cases, even as sole bread winners for a family.

In the closing remarks, M Rollan Lotha, COO Programs, NSRLM commented that the central government has invested crores of rupees in a single block and said such a commitment should be converted to successful ventures where a community institution can stand on their own after a point of time, and that this is the vision of the mission.

The programme was chaired by Imonenla Imkong Phom, State Program Manager, NSRLM and invocation was led by Selabeituo Theunuo, Program Manager, NSRLM. A presentation on the process of development of the Model CLFs was given by Nzan, Block Program Manager, Wokha block, NSRLM.
