Dimapur, January 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Transport Department has ordered a departmental inquiry into allegations of unauthorised fee collections from newly appointed employees.
The Department, through its Additional Secretary, Athrila S Sangtam, issued a press release on January 26, stating that the department did not authorise any official to collect funds for paperwork. The investigation follows a directive from the MLA and Advisor for Transport, to examine the allegations against the Office of the General Manager, Nagaland State Transport (NST).
The allegations stem from a recruitment drive conducted between September and November 2025 to fill 23 vacancies for conductors, mechanic helpers, and multi-tasking staff. As reported in the news, the successful candidates alleged they were asked to pay Rs 10,000 in cash when submitting joining letters in December. The candidates claimed they received phone calls from the GM’s office requesting the funds for “paperwork” or “work.”
The department confirmed it will constitute an Inquiry Committee to investigate the claims. The statement noted that disciplinary action will be initiated against any officials found responsible based on the committee’s findings.
