Lumami, September 6 (MExN): Nagaland University (NU) campuses across the state celebrated the varsity’s 28th Foundation Day on September 6 with a call to all stakeholders to uphold the University in fulfilling the aspirations of the society.

At the NU headquarters in Lumami, the occasion was marked by hoisting of the University flag by Vice-Chancellor Prof P Lal followed by the singing of the University song, according to a press release from the NU, PRO.

A short speech was delivered by Prof AK Singh, Department of Political Science, in which he asserted that the University had risen quantitatively and qualitatively by converting challenges into opportunities. Along with a magnificent increase in the number of departments and staff members, the University today is managed by people from inside, a vision for which Nagaland University was established, he added.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof P Lal, in his Foundation Day Lecture, extended greetings to the faculty members, administrative staff members, and students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, NU, Lumami on the occasion. He pointed out that the Foundation Stone of the University was laid by late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on October 5, 1987 and the University was ultimately set up on September 6, 1994. Then, on September 6, 1997, seven academic departments were inaugurated in Lumami by late Hokishe Sema, the VC stated.

While appreciating the minds that contributed to the growth of the University, Prof Lal also asserted that a clear vision was required to take the University forward. He said the biggest strength of the University in its quest for qualitative change in the system was the workforce— young bodies with experienced mind. Stating that no one has lost the zeal in making the University’s presence felt in the national scenario, he exhorted the staff of the lone Central University to hold the torch to show light for other institutions in providing service to the society.

Asserting that the importance of specialization of knowledge continues, he said it is also important to integrate specialization into the sectors with the ultimate motive of growing. He said it is high time to take care of the system, and to thus take care of society. Taking pride in the University’s glorious past, he believed that the NU would succeed in creating a new academic history in quality teaching, research, and development activities. He urged the stakeholders to show love and belonging to the system, come together, shoulder responsibility, and lend a helping hand to the institution while quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of emphasizing on RPT (Reform, Perform, and Transform) in the context of the institution and the society.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Likhase Sangtam and the programme came to an end with the singing of the National Anthem led by students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, NU, Lumami, the release stated.
