Lumami, September 24 (MExN): The Animal Care Unit (ACU), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Nagaland University organised anti-rabies vaccination drive. The event attracted participation from pet owners across the Nagaland University Lumami campus, Lumami Village, and Zaphumi New Village.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Jagadish K Patnaik graced the occasion, emphasising the university’s commitment to animal welfare and public health. The event began with a welcome speech by Dr Pranay Punj Pankaj, Nodal Officer of ACU, who underscored the collective goal of ensuring the safety of pets and the community through timely vaccinations.

Dr Ketinaro Aier, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, shared critical insights on the vital role of vaccinations in preventing rabies, a deadly viral disease that poses risks to both animals and humans. The session was chaired by Dr Rumi Dhar, In-Charge of Animal Welfare Association (AWA), NU, Lumami campus.

Over 55 dogs were vaccinated during the drive, marking a significant achievement in community health efforts. The event was supported by the Chief Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Officer, Mokokchung and team members.
