Nagaland University celebrated its 32nd Foundation Day on September 6 at the Medziphema campus. The venue of the annual celebration is rotated among campuses so that each gets the opportunity to host the main programme.
The event began with the hoisting of the University flag by Vice Chancellor Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, who was the chief guest, followed by the singing of the University anthem led by the EU, School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema campus.
In his address, Prof Patnaik expressed happiness over the improvement in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking of the University. He said his predecessors had done commendable work in bringing the University to its present stage. Stating that the University was at its peak on the 32nd Foundation Day, he encouraged the gathering to strive for greater heights through excellence, hard work, dedication and innovative thinking.
As part of a tradition introduced by him, the Vice Chancellor’s Award 2025 was presented to the awardees.
The Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best Teacher (campus-wise) was presented to Dr G Bupesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Forestry (Headquarters Lumami); Dr Seema Rani Thappa, Assistant Professor, Department of Teacher Education (Kohima campus); and Dr Deepa Thangjam, Assistant Professor, Department of Rural Development and Planning (Medziphema campus).
The Award for Best Non-Teaching Staff (campus-wise) went to Milto Swu, Section Officer, Finance (Kohima campus), and Yangpothung Lotha, Transport Section (Medziphema campus).
The Award for Best Research Scholar (campus-wise) was given to Shisak Sharma, Department of Chemistry (Headquarters Lumami); Lochumi Kikon, Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (Kohima campus); and Rajan Singh, Department of Livestock Production and Management (Medziphema campus).
The Award for Best Student (campus-wise) went to Alva Biginde M Sangma, Department of Chemistry (Headquarters Lumami); Kezevinuo and Thejainuo Thevo, both from Department of Linguistics (Kohima campus); and Karri Anusha, Department of Plant Pathology (Medziphema campus). A special award was also presented to Dr Biplab Pal, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics.
Pro Vice Chancellors Prof Dipak Sinha (Medziphema campus) and Prof N Venuh (Kohima campus) also spoke on the occasion. Registrar Dr Abemo described the Foundation Day as a day of thanksgiving and remembrance of the pioneers, and requested all to observe a minute of silence in honour of former employees who had passed away. He lauded the teaching and non-teaching staff, research scholars and students for their contributions and urged them to work hard to help the University achieve its best potential.
