The Nagaland’s first Cherry Blossom festival got underway at Longkhum village Mokokchung on November 22 organized by the Longkhum Tourism Development under the aegis of the Longkhum Village Council. The festival is organized on the theme “In unison with nature.” T Tatong Longchar, District Fishery Officer, Mokokchung was the special guest for the inaugural programme. 

Longchar, in his speech, acknowledged the work of late Dalle Namo under whose initiative the cherry trees were planted in 1980-81. He said that the initiative started small but the present generation are enjoying the fruits of labour. He encouraged the people to be thankful to everyone and to respect the past leaders for their works. 

He said that the Cherry Blossom festival will not only unite people but also boost the economy of the village and encouraged the villagers to work towards making the event an international event. 

Rongpangwati, Tourism Committee, gave the welcome address while C Angang Jamir, Chairman, Longkhum Village Council, brought greetings on behalf of the Village council. 

Day one of the festival witnessed the inauguration of multi-cuisines & games stall by the special guest and an unplugged concert and karaoke featuring various local artists. The pine grooves and cherry trees have been illuminated with lights so that the guests at the festival can walk under the trees. There is also a children play zone in the festival area. The festival will culminate on November 24.
