Nagas cannot be divided by 'artificial borders', asserts NSCN-K (Niki Group)

Highlights various issues concerning Eastern Naga areas

Dimapur, July 12 (MExN): The NSCN-K (Niki Group) today stated that Nagas cannot be divided by “artificial geographical borders” while highlighting various issues concerning the Eastern Naga areas (Myanmar) and urging the Nagaland Government to do more for them.

“Nagas are Nagas and that no artificial geographical borders drawn by the occupying forces can make us lesser or more Naga,” asserted the NSCN-K (Niki Group) in a press release from its MIP.

The assertion came against the backdrop of what it termed as “certain individuals from Burmese occupied Naga areas pushing for a ‘Refugee Status’ for Eastern Nagas" from the Government of India.

Nagas cannot be divided on the lines of citizens and refugees, it added.

The Nagaland Government should listen and come to their senses by taking the example of Mizoram State Government, who had welcome their brethren with open arms and are assisting them in every way possible, it added.

“The Nagaland State Government can and must do more for our Eastern brothers and sisters,” it added.

It further maintained that time and again, the Nagas have fallen prey to the divisive policies from within and outside and the NSCN-K (Niki Group) “cannot allow or encourage these elements from creating more division among us, by using the international boundary drawn without our consent by India and Myanmar.”

Giving a background to their stance, the NSCN-K (Niki Group) claimed that due to political crisis in the Eastern Naga areas as a result of the ongoing civil war in Myanmar, new class of individuals from the East has risen and taking undue advantage for their own benefits.

“The NSCN/GPRN would like to bring to the notice of the general Naga populace that some of the Eastern Nagas from Burmese occupied Naga areas, who have lived and studied in Nagaland are indulging in fund raising for their individualistic interest claiming that the funds are meant for people suffering in Myanmar which in most case is lie,” it stated.

“It is unfortunate and condemnable that the people suffering have no knowledge of what these corrupt individuals are using their name for,” it added.
