In a significant development, the members of Naro clan in Dzülhami village in Phek district have formally resolved to restore their original identity as Vero Clan.
Historically known as the Vero Clan, the group had, due to certain circumstances over the years, come to be identified as the Naro Clan. However, after careful deliberation and collective consensus, the community has decided to revert to its original nomenclature.
A total of 51 households, comprising 235 members, have unanimously made a formal declaration, affirming that they shall henceforth be known and addressed as members of the Vero Clan.
The decision reflects a renewed commitment to preserving their ancestral identity, heritage, and lineage.
Community leaders described the move as positive step and reaffirmation of their historical roots.
The declaration has been formally recorded, marking a unified and definitive transition back to the clan’s original name.
A formal declaration programme took place on March 24 at Dzülhami village in the presence of Vero clan representatives from across Phek district and Western Chakhesang areas.
Later, Posetso also made declaration that Nyekha clan (Comprising 21 households and 89 members) from Suthozu Nawu to be known as Vero clan henceforth.
Vezokho Vero, Pastor, Naga Shisha Hoho Prayer Centre, Pruzie, Kohima administered Act of Blessing for the formal declaration.
Speaking on the occasion, Sachopra Vero, (Retd) Secretary to Govt of Nagaland called upon the gathering to maintain unity and always put God first in everything they do.
We need to be honest and truthful in all our dealings with others, he said.
Zhopra Vero, Kedahge, Federal Government of Nagaland, Müdosüh, Duvelhü, Vethi Vero, Vekho Vero, Zuvehu Vero, Kuduvotso Vero and others also spoke at the programme.
The programme was chaired by Müdokhrüpra while Sevotso Vero, pastor Chakhesang Baptist Church Mokokchung invoked God’s blessing.
