NAYO reiterates stand on 14 days institutional quarantine for returnees

Kohima, May 16 (MExN): The Northern Angami Youth Organization (NAYO) today took cognizance of reports that returnees belonging to affluent families have been exempted from compulsory quarantine and reiterated that 14 days of institutional quarantine should be mandated.

A press release to this effect was issued by NAYO President and General Secretary on May 16 where it cited reports that “some citizens of Nagaland belonging to affluent families returning from other states (irrespective of the zones) have been exempted from the compulsory quarantine at government prescribed institutions on the basis of their influential status.”

NAYO expressed dismay at the reports and said that the government should “seriously take the execution of the rules laid down for the safety of all its citizens against the deadly COVID 19 as the pandemic does not differentiate the people based on any ground and definitely not between the rich and the poor.”

The NAYO also insisted on mandatory 14 days institutional quarantine of all returnees after which they can be discharged only after producing certificate of negative re-sampling. This will be followed by 14 days home quarantine, that is a total of 28 days quarantine, irrespective of class, creed or religion, it added.

Further, NAYO requested the youth organisations under its jurisdiction to be more circumspect at this juncture as the general public is at risk, and instructed them not to allow any traveller into their colonies or villages for home quarantine without the mandatory institution quarantine re-sampling certificate.

The NAYO meanwhile cautioned the individual as well as the families who have violated the quarantine at the government provided centres, “that in the event of any ill-fated situation or casualties resulting from their failure to observe the rules, the organisation would take the most grave of actions against them.” Such callous behaviour risking the lives of the entire denizens and that at a time such as this would mean the most serious implications from the organization, it added.
