‘NCP has a bright future in Nagaland’

Dimapur, July 22 (MExN): The Nationalist Congress Party today formally inducted its new president, Dr. Chumben Murry, who is also the Minister of Agriculture, as its new state president at a programme at Tourist Lodge, which was attended by the NCP National general secretary, Dr. Jimmy George, and a host of other state party leaders.

Speaking at the programme, the newly appointed state NCP president thanked the National NCP president, Sharad Pawar, and NCP leader PA Sangma for reposing their faith in him and giving him the responsibility to lead the party in Nagaland. While thanking his predecessors for leading the party to its present position, Dr. Murry said that the Nagaland NCP unit, which is presently a partner in the DAN coalition government, was in a precarious position since the NPF party had got the majority in the state assembly. However, he asserted, the leverage of the state NCP party would be determined by the help and concern shown by the national party in helping out the state government. The Agriculture Minister also requested the national party leaders to take special interest especially with regard to the Naga people.

The NCP Central Observer, Dr. Jimmy George, while speaking at the programme, expressed hope that the party would grow from strength to strength and become a major political party in the state. Allaying the rumour that the NCP would join or merge with the Congress, the NCP National Secretary ruled out any possibility of merging with the Congress party. He, instead, asserted that the NCP has become one of the five major political parties in the country. The NCP general secretary expressed hope that the newly inducted Nagaland team would lead the party to greater heights in the days to come.

The newly appointed NCP Secretary General NE, Neiba Ndang, who also spoke at the programme, exhorted the party workers to work hard and strengthen the party in the state. Saying that the people are looking for an alternative national political party in the state, Ndang asserted that the political parties like the Indian National Congress are just “sinking boats” and that the other small national parties like the JD(U) “have no future in the state”.

“Nationalist Congress Party has got a bright scope; Nationalist Congress Party has got a bright future in Nagaland,” asserted Ndang. Other speakers at the meeting highlighted the need to strengthen the party at the grassroots level. The outgoing president of NCP also spoke at the programme.
