NDO Community Development Prog to intervene in 12 villages

Dimapur, April 8 (MExN): The Nagaland Development Outreach, (Development wing of Nagaland Baptist Church Council –NBCC) Dimapur launched Child Friendly Environment Programme and Rural Community Health Programme at its Human Resource Development Centre (NDO-HRDC) located at Nikhekhu Village, Nuiland Block on April 3.

A press release issued by the NDO office stated that the programme will be intervening in 12 villages under Niuland block with a sole objective to create a child friendly environment through strategic approach, by formation of Children’s Parliament to address Child rights issues and to enhanced children’s participation in decision making, resilience and life skills to protect and empower themselves. This programme will be implemented in collaboration with the Local churches, Council and Village Leaders and with the Government where the program will aim to achieve sustainable and appropriate child protection mechanism through creation of safe and just environments that nuture children for becoming good leaders to lead the community and society with high moral values and ethics.

Another important programme which was launched on this day was with the partnership with Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR) the Rural Community Health Program is initiated as pilot program with these 12 villages. “What we have experienced in the field is that there has been a huge disparity between the rural and urban set up when it comes to access to health facility. The Government machinaries are also not able to provide health facility in all the villages and also health centres are not close by,” the release stated. 

“This programme will identify and train community health workers from each of the twelve villages who will be trained with basic health care and also collect village health information and upload the village health conditions for quick response. This programme will also involve the Church and the community for participation and also taking the ownership responsibility,” it informed. 

Along with the representatives from 12 villages, the dignitaries who attended the program were Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho (General Secretary NBCC), Maj. Dr. Mughavi (NDO Board Chairman), Rev. Dr. Hevukhu Achumi (Executive Secretary WSBAK), Rev. C. Amop Noklang (Director NDO) and Dr. Atsung Aier (Community Medicine, CIHSR).
