Chümoukedima, April 22 (MExN): The Department of Philosophy, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dimapur Division organised a run commemorating Earth Day 2024 on April 22.

About 120 participants including students, faculty and children participated in the run from the Unity Gate, at the Chathe Bridge, to the college’s administrative block, the college stated in a press release.

Beizo Soukhrie, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Dimapur, spoke on the theme “Planet vs. Plastics” and underlined the need to be cautious in our use of plastics. He conceded that plastic has become an integral part of our life, making life “very convenient in many ways” but added that it was a “sad thing” that many of the plastic items are single-use or disposable items which “we just use and throw.”

“We need to be more careful, because the pollution that you make today will remain for 100s of years. It will remain for many more generations to come,” he said.

The DFO encouraged the students to work towards making the earth a better place. “Every small positive action you do today will definitely have positive impacts on the environment.”

The first three finishers of the race were Vipito, Jochuhi Kent and Kenzeuyigongbe Elu, followed by Lighika Kiho, Neiketunuo and Tumchobeni who won consolation prizes.
