NEET UG 2025: Nagaland sees dip in pass percentage amid national decline

Nagaland has recorded a dip in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Undergraduate (UG) pass percentage for 2025, following a steady rise in recent years.

As per the result data released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 14, a total of 3532 candidates appeared for NEET UG 2025 from Nagaland, out of which 1812 qualified. Initially, a total of 3757 has registered for the test. 

Accordingly, 51.30% of candidates who appeared from the State qualified in 2025, indicating a significant drop from 55.60% in 2024 and 55.96% in 2023. This is the first notable decline since the NTA began conducting the test.

The State had shown consistent improvement in NEET UG performance over recent yearsrising from around 29.34% in 2018 to 34.52% in 2019, and around 40.50% in 2020 and 2021.

In 2022, the pass percentage surged to 54.51%, which further increased to 55.96% in 2023. It remained relatively stable at 55.60% in 2024.

While the pass percentage declined in 2025, the number of candidates appearing was the highest so far at 3757, compared to 3479 in 2024. A total of 1812 candidates qualified in 2025, down from 1934 in 2024.

Nagaland topper
Meanwhile, the state-wise topper list provided by the NTA noted that Manyata Jain was the highest-ranked candidate from Nagaland. She scored 98.20% and was placed at 38,878 in the national ranking.

In 2024, Navin Kumar (Gen-EWS) secured the top position among candidates from Nagaland with a percentile score of 99.475249, placing him at 11,350 nationally.

National overview
Nationally too, NEET UG 2025 witnessed a decline. Out of 22.09 lakh candidates, 12.36 lakh qualified, compared to 13.16 lakh successful candidates in the previous year from a higher pool of 23.33 lakh test-takers.

This translated to a pass percentage of approximately 55.97%, slightly lower than 56.34% in 2024.

Rajasthan’s Mahesh Kumar secured the top rank, followed by Utkarsh Awadhiya from Madhya Pradesh. Among females, Avika Aggarwal from Delhi was declared the national topper, ranking 5th overall. Krishang Joshi from Maharashtra and Mrinal Kishore Jha from Delhi secured the 3rd and 4th ranks respectively.

All of the top 100 candidates, as well as category-wise toppers (except four), scored above the 99 percentile, with ranks decided by decimal point differences.

Cut-off down
Meanwhile, the qualifying marks for candidates across both general and reserved categories decreased in 2025.

For unreserved category candidates, the cut-off range dropped from 720–162 in 2024 to 686–144 in 2025. Similarly, for candidates from reserved categories such as SC, ST, and OBC, the cut-off range fell from 161–127 to 143–113.

Admission outlook
NEET (UG) is the uniform entrance examination for admission to MBBS/BDS/BAMS/BSMS/BUMS/BHMS and other undergraduate medical courses in approved or recognised Medical, Dental, AYUSH colleges and Deemed Universities/Institutes (including AIIMS and JIPMER) across India.

According to PTI, a total of 1,08,000 MBBS seats are available in India, with approximately 56,000 in government medical colleges and 52,000 in private institutions. 

Admissions to undergraduate courses in Dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha also depend on NEET scores.

For aspirants from Nagaland, the Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research (NIMSR) has an intake capacity of 85 MBBS seats, in addition to the State’s allocation in the central pool.
