Chümoukedima, April 22 (MExN): North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima under the initiative of Green Club observed Earth Day on the theme ‘Planet & Plastics’ at NEISSR cultural hall on April 22. Through a skit, attendees were transported from the environmental landscape of the 90s to the present day, showcasing the stark changes and challenges faced by Earth, NEISSR stated in its press release. 

Vimeyienu Viswentso from MSW 4th Semester emphasised importance of Earth Day, underscoring its critical role in raising awareness and catalyzing action for environmental conservation. Following her remarks, Künüsülü, also from MSW 4th semester gave a brief introduction to the skit.

The skit served as a medium for illustrating the rapid and profound impact of human activity on the Earth's ecosystems. Through compelling performances and vivid storytelling, it depicted how societal behaviors and the prevalence of plastics have fundamentally transformed the planet, endangering both human health and environmental stability, it stated. 

From scenes depicting pristine natural landscapes of the past to contrasting images of pollution-choked environments of the present, the performance effectively conveyed the urgency of addressing environmental degradation. It served as a poignant reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard the planet for future generations, urging viewers to reflect on their individual roles in mitigating environmental harm and promoting sustainability, the release added.
