Following initial resentment from residents, the New Minister’s Hill (NMH) Panchayat informed today that its residents have decided to respect the state government directive designating a hotel in the locality as a paid quarantine facility.
NMH Panchayat Secretary told The Morung Express today that owing to “public pressure” it had submitted a representation to the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima on May 21 outlining their apprehension on the location of a paid quarantine facility in the colony. The colony residents had also put up a banner on May 22 expressing opposition for the paid quarantine facility.
But the Panchayat reconsidered the action and decided to retract its initial decision. The Secretary said that it sensitized the colony residents and has removed the banner set up by the residents. He added that the representation to the DC stands null and void.
