NFR boosts ‘connectivity and safety’ with new Chaparmukh ROB

Maligaon, November 12 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed the construction of a crucial Road Over Bridge (ROB) in lieu of Level Crossing Gate No. ST-33 at Chaparmukh, which was inaugurated on November 11, 2025, by the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, in the presence of senior railway officials and dignitaries.

The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 84.6 crore, spans a total length of 1,179 metres.

With the commissioning of the ROB, Level Crossing No ST-33 has been permanently closed, the NFR informed in an official release, terming the development a significant step towards enhancing safety and ensuring smooth rail and road connectivity.

The newly inaugurated ROB connects Raha (NH-27) to Chaparmukh Railway Junction and further to West Karbi Anglong, significantly improving connectivity and easing movement across the region, it said.

This crucial infrastructure project is expected to benefit over 20 lakh commuters, facilitating smooth movement for an estimated 16 lakh vehicles annually, it added.

With the opening of the ROB, a total of five level crossings out of a target of eight have been successfully closed in the Lumding Division under NFR, marking another milestone in improving railway safety and infrastructure in the region.
