NHAK Dental Unit conducted ‘oral cancer screening activities’ at Kros College Kohima on April 6.

Kohima, April 6 (MExN): Under the aegis of National Health Mission, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima, National Oral Health Programme and as part of the oral cancer awareness month, the Dental Unit team from Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK) conducted the ‘oral cancer screening activities’ at Kros College Kohima on April 6.
Speaking on the ‘causes and prevention of oral cancer,’ District Nodal Officer, NTCP, Dr I Simon Sumi cautioned the student present that ‘youngsters start consuming either smoke or smokeless tobacco products as early as 15 to 24 years of age.’ He apprised how tobacco is causing premature mortality in the world and “tobacco is the only legally available substance which kills when it is used as intended.”
Dr Simon also cited on the importance of tobacco control by preventing on several evidence-based strategies which can reduce tobacco use and exposure to second-hand smoke. He also informed regarding the four strategies for preventing tobacco user in young people, by eliminating exposure to second-hand smoke and advancing to healthy equity by identifying tobacco related disparities.
Activities included of Oral Screening of the students by Junior Dental Surgeons, Dr Akenyu, Dr. Lydia and Dr Kemezhunuo all from NHAK Dental Unit. Altogether, 36 college students were screened, stated a press release received here.
