Cautions against unrecognised qualifications
Kohima, April 22 (MExN): The Nagaland Medical Council (NMC) has decided to publish the lists of all registered allopathic medical practitioners who are serving in Government sector or practicing in hospitals, nursing homes and clinics registered under Nagaland Health Care Establishment Authority in the State for public awareness.
NMC Registrar Dr Kevilhulie Meyase in a press release informed the lists will be notified district wise in due course of time. Subsequently, the place of posting of some Government employed doctor(s) may differ due to transfer of posting.
A total of 1553 Medical Practitioners are registered with the NMC till date, out of which 668 are specialists in different disciplines, Dr Meyase added.
The registered medical practitioners have been directed to display qualification(s) which are only recognised by Medical Council of India (MCI) or National Medical Commission (NMC) and duly registered with the State Medical Council. Proprietors of private hospitals, nursing homes and clinics have been cautioned to employ only registered medical practitioners. Advertising any specialty and additional qualification(s) which are not recognised by the NMC or MCI shall construed as professional misconduct rendering him/her liable for disciplinary action.
Further, organizations and hospitals inviting allopathic doctor(s) from outside the State for consultations or medical camps are also directed to get their credentials verified by the Council in advance. In addition, the State Medical Council has informed that only registered medical practitioner can serve or practice modern medicine as mandated by the National Medical Commission Act 2019 and Nagaland Medical Council Act 2014.
The Council also reminded all serving and practicing allopathic doctors that they must renew their registration every five years.
