A two week long musical concert campaign titled, ‘No to plastic! Yes to clean election!’ concluded here this evening.

This campaign is an initiative of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) and Music Task Force (MTF) to spread awareness on the hazardous effects of plastic pollution.

It started on March 20 last and covered all the 19 wards of Kohima town.

Addressing the culmination programme here at Old MLA Hostel Junction, Nagaland State Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy, said that each individual must begin to control plastics pollution at home, school, colleges and work place.

Appealing the young people to be a part of this movement, Toy said, “Let us all be a part of the solution and not the problems.”

He said that elections are just five days away, adding, we have heard enough about clean election, "Let us stop preaching about clean election but start practicing clean."

“Together we can,” he hoped.

Restrict single use plastics

KMC Administrator Kovi Meyase said that this musical concert campaign on ‘No to plastic! Yes to clean election!’ was conceived with the sole purpose of creating awareness on the harmful effects of plastics and to propagate the government's decision to restrict the use of plastics, more specifically, single use plastics in our daily lives.

He appealed the citizens of Kohima to join hands to make “our city, our land and our future more livable by restricting the use of plastic.”

Thangi Mannen, Green Team Kohima, highlighted the problem of plastic pollution across the State.

Seeking the support of each and every individual, she said, “we need to go back to make our land better, cleaner, more fertile and less polluted.”

Mannen also called upon the citizens of the State to associate with the Green Team in its fight against plastic pollution.

She informed that the Green Team is approaching the government to totally ban plastics in Nagaland.

“We will be proud if Nagaland can be declared as a no plastic zone State in India,” Mannen said.

Kohima Deputy Commissioner, Anoop Khinchi, urged the citizens of Kohima to decrease the use of plastics as much as possible.

He also called upon the people to work together and make Nagaland free of plastic.

Thejangunuo Nakhro, Kohima Icon, also spoke at the programme. Vote of thanks was proposed by MTF project director Dr. Hovithal Sothu.

Several artists performed at the culmination programme.
