Noklak: Mithun farmers equipped with scientific technologies

Medziphema, February 18 (MExN): The ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRCM) Medziphema in pursuit of its mission in the field of Mithun farming and husbandry practices, conducted two-day technology awareness programme at New Pangsha village under Noklak district on February 16 and 17. 

According to an update from Dr Kobu Khate, Chief Technical Officer, ICAR- NRC on Mithun, Medziphema, Noklak district has high Mithun population and sale of Mithun meat in the market is a regular affair as source of animal protein for the people living in one of the remotest locations bordering Myanmar.

During the inaugural programme, the Deputy Commissioner, Noklak Hiazu Meru encouraged the farmers stating that Mithun occupies an important status in the socio-economic development and farmers should be equipped with the scientific technologies developed by the research centre. Superintendent of Police, Noklak Dr Kritpal Kaur called upon the farmers that they can also be rich like farmers in Punjab and Haryana for which regular learning and adoption is required. 

Dr MH Khan, Director, ICAR-NRCM in his opening remark stressed on preservation, protection and propagation of Mithun germplasm that farmers should maintain superior bull for breeding purpose and there should be bull exchange programme among the Mithun rearing villages.

The scientist showcased the technologies of Mithun farming model developed by the research centre for scientific rearing of Mithun. Input materials for establishing semi intensive Mithun farming were distributed such as barbed wire, CGI sheet, ear tag, mineral blocks etc. 

The inaugural programme was followed by training and farmers scientist interaction on scientific Mithun farming for better return and productivity. Vaccination cum animal health camp was also conducted at natural Mithun habitat and 50 Mithun received medication and vaccine on February 17.
