NPAC member Athrom cautions youngsters

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 2 (MExN): NPAC Member, GPRN/NSCN Athrom Konyak has stated that “the Nations of the world at different times have impeached their leaders from lofty seats by consent of parliaments and National Assemblies, for failing the people and usurping constitutions”. Stating that he had served the Naga Nation for 38 years, the press note from Athrom stated that it was his responsibility “to offer elderly advice to youngsters who are fraudulently using former Chairman S.S Khaplang’s name to further their own ambitions”.
“They should wake up and come to their senses. Nagas have perfectly understood the world around them. I strongly feel that NSCN choosing a new leader in the interest of Naga nation is nothing to be ashamed of”, the press note stated pointing out that former “NSCN Chairman S.S Khaplang has wisely and practically accepted the decision of the National Hoho of 7th June 2011” and that “I appreciate him for understanding the fact that he has been replaced for the betterment of the Nagas”.
Stating that the issue was not between GPRN/NSCN and S.S Khaplang, the press note pointed out that the “problem is being created by the run-away officials who are discrediting S.S Khaplang’s contribution to Naga political struggle to cover up their ill-conceived plan”. “Let Naga history remember S.S Khaplang as a leader who served the Naga Nation well during his time. I am most ashamed by the manner in which the youngsters at Suruhuto camp are aggressively marketing S.S Khaplang in the dailies to sell their propaganda manufactured at Suruhuto Camp without the knowledge of S.S Khaplang. I urge them not to burn S.S Khaplang like a candle for personal use”, stated Athrom Konyak.
Pointing out that the “disgruntled youngsters, most of who were not yet born when NSCN Chairman Gen. (Retd) Khole Konyak joined the Naga National movement”, the press note stated that these youngsters appeared to be “extremely resentful of the transition” and adding that “accusing veteran national workers with worst expletives is uncalled for”. “The sacrifice, the courage and spirit with which the NSCN leaders, for many decades, fought shoulder to shoulder against the invading forces cannot be woven into a doormat for fresh graduates to daily trample upon”.
It stated that most of these young men joined the national service after the ceasefire agreement between GOI and NSCN in 2001 and “shockingly ran away to Suruhuto Camp shouting Khaplang’s name after impeaching him on 7th June 2011 and installing Gen. (Retd.) Khole Konyak on 15th June 2011, as the new NSCN Chairman”. “I hope that Khaplang is aware about the tricks of these ambitious individuals”, the press note stated.
The press note further informed that Chairman Gen. (Retd) Khole Konyak has served the Naga Nation for 57 years, Kilonser Hekheto Jimomi has served for 56 years, Dy. Kilonser Lt. Gen. (Retd) H Mopa Konyak has served for 49 years, Brig. (Retd) Tatar Kakiho for 46 years, C-in-C Lt. Gen. M.B Neokpao Konyak for 41 years, NPAC Member Longshen Khiamnungan has served for 31 years, NPAC Convener Azheto Chophy for 31 years. It also stated that there are hundreds more who have given more than 25 of their best years to the Naga Nation and continue to contribute meaningfully to the struggle.
“How could NSCN be an infant organisation when it is guided by such distinguished patriots? I advice the group at Suruhuto camp to first assess their individual contribution to the Naga Nation. Serving the Nation obediently and gaining experience and recognition for decades of selfless sacrifice is what they need. They can read books and tell me the world but I will tell them about Naga struggle from personal experience”.
The press note from Athrom Konyak stated that Chairman Gen. (Retd) Khole Konyak and Gen. Secretary N Kitovi Zhimomi are determined freedom fighters with firm conviction towards finding the solution to the Indo-Naga political problem and therefore it pointed out that “young people at Suruhuto Camp with tuition books and pencil in their hands should not complain or attempt to teach NSCN and the Naga people the art of freedom struggle” and that “they should stop distracting the Naga people”.
