NPF condemns arrest of Catholic nuns, tribal women in Chhattisgarh

Kohima, August 2 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has strongly condemned the recent arrest of two Catholic nuns and three tribal women in Chhattisgarh on allegations of human trafficking and religious conversion, stating that such incidents reflect “a worrying trend of targeting minorities, often based on false complaints and communal bias.” A statement issued by NPF press bureau said that the case—“reportedly lacking credible evidence and triggered by a fringe group”—raises serious concerns over the misuse of legal provisions to harass those engaged in humanitarian work. Highlighting the contribution of Christian missionaries, particularly in tribal regions, the NPF said, “The role of Christian missionaries, especially among tribal communities, has been one of service—and must be respected.” The party called upon the Chhattisgarh government to ensure justice through a fair and time-bound investigation into the case.
