NPF resolves to strengthen party, reinforces position on key national issues

Reaffirms opposition to 'One Nation, One Election'; calls for reversal of FMR

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 13 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Central Office Bearers (COBs) consultative meeting, held at the party's central office in Kohima on February 12, adopted a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening the party, addressing political concerns, and reinforcing its position on key regional and national issues.

The meeting resolved to strengthen the party at all levels and issued an appeal to former NPF members who had either become inactive or distanced themselves from the party to reconsider their decision and rejoin in the larger interest of the Naga people.
A key resolution was passed regarding the ongoing case related to the de-registration of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), in which the NPF has been repeatedly mentioned.

The resolution stated that "the case pertaining to de-registration of NDPP where NPF has been unnecessarily dragged in time and again without the NPF Head Office being duly briefed by the person concerned should be closed forthwith."

The party’s leadership expressed the opinion that the matter, currently pending in court, should be resolved outside the legal system, as "prolonging the matter in the court infuses more negativity thereby derailing stronger ties with other like-minded political parties."

The NPF also urged both the Government of India and Naga National Workers to expedite the Indo-Naga peace process. "The meeting urged both the Government of India and the Naga National Workers to expedite the Indo-Naga peace process and bring an inclusive, acceptable, and honourable solution and appeal to all the National Workers to unite and work together," the resolution stated.

With regard to the political turmoil in Manipur, the NPF reaffirmed its commitment to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state but noted a lack of proper consultation within the coalition. The resolution emphasized that this issue "needs to be examined and considered in order to uphold the coalition spirit."

While the party strongly opposed the imposition of President's Rule in Manipur, it urged for the installation of a democratically elected government without delay.

Additionally, the NPF demanded that all five of its MLAs be accommodated in the new BJP-led NDA government in Manipur, asserting that "NPF is a trusted partner of the coalition since 2017."

Another major resolution opposed the Central Government’s decision to construct border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border and called for the reversal of the Free Movement Regime (FMR), which has disrupted the long-standing traditional ties of communities on both sides of the border. "The NPF strongly opposes the decision of the Central Government for construction of border fencing along the imaginary Indo-Myanmar Border and urges reconsideration of sealing the border and scrapping of Free Movement Regime (FMR), which has caused a series of problems disrupting the traditional ties of people who have been living on both sides of the border since time immemorial," the resolution read.

The meeting also acknowledged the contributions of its two NPF MLAs—Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu, Leader of the NPF Legislature Party, and Achumbemo Kikon, Secretary General—commending them for "boldly raising important issues in the interest of the Party in particular and the Nagas in general" in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

Reiterating its stance on electoral reforms, the NPF reaffirmed its opposition to the Central Government’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal.

A resolution committee was formed to oversee the drafting of the resolutions, consisting of Khongjah Konyak as Convenor and members Lanukaba, Toniho Sheqi, Diethoselhou Sachü, and Ciefüzü Cürhah.
