NPF to nominate Thenucho Tunyi

Dimapur, March 19 (MExN): A partner in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government, the NPF has decided to field its own candidate for the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha.

“We are happy to inform you that Thenucho Tunyi, one of our Working Presidents, has come forward to stand as NPF candidate for the said election if no candidate comes forward from our Legislature Group,” party President Shürhozelie Liezietsu stated in a letter on Saturday.

Addressing NPF Legislature Party leader TR Zeliang in the letter, the party President requested the former to take up the matter and “entrust the required number of MLAs to sign the nomination paper on Monday morning (March 21), so as to enable the party’s nominee to file his nomination on time.”

Nominations will close at 3:00 pm on Monday.

The NPF which joined the NDPP-BJP ruling dispensation in September last year to form the opposition-less United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government has 25 MLAs in the house.

The incumbent member from Nagaland to the Upper House, KG Kenye whose tenure ends on April 2 is from the NPF party.
