NPF voices concern over rising assaults incidents

Kohima, September 9 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed concern over what it alleged as the “disturbing” a rise in incidents of “physical assaults, harassment, and intimidation” of local Nagas within state by “non-locals.”

In a press statement issued by its Press Bureau, the NPF stated that such incidents, if true, threaten the peaceful coexistence and harmony traditionally upheld in Naga society. It maintained that Nagaland has long been known for its hospitality and respect towards people from diverse communities, but alleged that recent unprovoked assaults in marketplaces, public spaces, and residential areas have created “fear and resentment.”

The party urged law enforcement agencies to take firm and swift action in such cases so that justice is delivered and confidence restored. It also appealed to district administrations and traditional institutions to remain vigilant and ensure that anti-social activities are not allowed to grow unchecked.

At the same time, the NPF called upon both local and non-local citizens to uphold mutual respect, peace, and understanding.
It emphasised that while Nagas welcome all communities to live and work in the state, any attempt to intimidate or assault them must be dealt with according to the law.

The NPF remains committed to safeguarding the dignity and rights of the Naga people while working for peaceful co-existence with all communities, it added.
