Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): The NSCN-K (Niki Group), on August 14, has expressed resentment over what is alleged as the “highhandedness of the security forces (Assam Rifles)” by “raiding” the residence of one of its senior Kilonser on August 12.
As per a press release from the MIP, NSCN/GPRN, the security forces once again “disturbed the peaceful atmosphere of the society” by raiding the residence without “any valid reason or provocation.”
A team of personnel led by one Major of 7 AR raided the residence L Yakub Konyak, Kilonser at 6th Mile area on August 12 at 1PM and “ransacked entire house for hours together till into the wee hours of August 13,” it alleged.
The raid, emotionally and mentally” tortured the wife and children of the Kilonser besides creating fear psychosis in the entire vicinity of the village/colony, it added.
According to the NSCN-K (Niki Group), on failing to find any documents or objects that “could give the AR personnel a valid reason to apprehend the Kilonser,” the security forces “planted four country made pistols in the residence” and branded him as a member of the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) member.
Despite intervention and clarification from the Ceasefire Supervisory Board, NSCN-K (Niki Group) that Konyak was one senior functionary under the leadership of Gen (Retd) Niki Sumi and Starson Lamkang, they “rounded up the entire family members and took them to their camp in the middle of the night,” it added.
The release further noted that the security forces were also adamant to file FIR in the Chümoukedima police station claiming that Konyak was a member of the Yung Aung-led NSCN (K).
“The NSCN/GPRN is made to believe that the security forces had cruel intention to cause harm to L Yakub Konyak had it not been timely intervention of the Ceasefire Supervisory Board,” it further alleged.
Calling the action “unethical and drastic,” the NSCN-K (Niki Group) stated that the security forces must respect the ceasefire signed between the NSCN/GPRN and the Government of India and under which all parties concerned must adhere to the existing ceasefire.
“The security forces must refrain themselves from resorting to such senseless acts which creates apprehension in the society and unfavorable situation which are against the wishes of the people,” it added.
