NSLSA conducts sensitization on POCSO, PCPNDT Act across Nagaland

Kohima, March 3 (MExN): The District Legal Services Authorities under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authorities (NSLSA) in February organised series of awareness and sensitisation on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994.

The events were conducted in collaboration with District Administration and the District Level Centres for Women (DLCW), Mahila Shakti Kandra (MSK) at various cluster and communities, a press release from NSLSA informed.

On February 14, the Longleng District Administration and the DLCW, MSK in collaboration with Longleng DLSA organised one-day sensitisation cum awareness programme about the provisions of the POCSO Act in Mongtikang Village. 

During the event, Project Assistant P Monyei Phom said that child sexual assault was a major concern and added that everyone has to take ‘responsibility in their own ways’ to combat the menace. 

She also briefed on various offences and Punishment.

Likewise, on February 15, the aforesaid organisations jointly conducted an orientation cum training programme on POCSO and PCPNDT Act for Anganwadi and Asha workers at VDB Hall in Longleng town. 

Speaking on the occasion, Monyei Phom highlighted different types of offences and punishment under the Acts and encouraged the gathering to be more practical in approach relating to the offence under the prescribed law.

Panglang Y Phom also highlighted on PC-PNDT Act and urged the gathering to be aware of such Acts and also to approach LDLSA for necessary services.

Meanwhile,  the Wokha DLSA in coordination with District  Administration, DLCW-MSK BBBP conducted  orientation and training programmes on POCSO and PCPNDT with Anganwadi workers of Wozhuro-Sub Division Block on  February 11;  Sanis Block covering 7 Villages on  February 15;  Bhandari Sub-Division covering 43 Villages on February 16 and Chukitong Sub-Division Block comprising of  7 villages on February 21. 

Another such event was held at Ralan Sub-Division covering 16 villages on February 24.  During the training programme Adv Shanchobeni P Lotha, DPA WDLSA  spoke on POCSO, Basic Procedures  of Law : FIR/Bail, Rights and on benefits under RTE ,health, family, and social welfare schemes. 

The WDLSA, later, visited and reviewed Legal Aid Clinic Ralan located at SDO Civil Office, the release added.
